Brief Description

The Patagonia M's Torrentshell 3L Rain Jkt is Patagonia's benchmark rain jacket: three layers of waterproof and breathable protection under the H2No® Performance Standard, made from ECONYL® recycled nylon and PFAS-free in every component — neither fabric, nor membrane, nor DWR finish. Two-way adjustable hood, underarm zip vents, microfleece-lined collar, and packable into its own pocket. It's the jacket you buy once and it stays with you for years: for autumn showers in Mallorca, a route through the Tramuntana mountains with unstable skies, or a trip where the weather isn't on your side.

Key Features

  • 3-layer H2No® Performance Standard Construction: The outer layer is 50-denier 100% recycled ECONYL® ripstop nylon. The middle layer is a PU polycarbonate membrane with 13% bio-based content. The inner layer is a soft-touch tricot backer. All three layers work together to offer long-lasting waterproofness, breathability, and durability.
  • PFAS-Free Throughout: Neither the outer fabric, nor the membrane, nor the DWR finish contain intentionally added perfluorinated substances. Full protection without harmful chemicals.
  • Two-Way Adjustable Hood with Laminated Visor: Adjusts forward and backward to adapt to wind and rain. The laminated visor deflects water from the face. When not needed, it rolls down and secures with a cord-and-hook system.
  • Microfleece-Lined Collar: The collar area features a microfleece lining with a waterproof/breathable barrier for comfort where the jacket rubs most.
  • Snag-Free Center Zipper with Double Storm Flap: The front zipper has outer and inner storm flaps to prevent water from seeping in, and a zipper garage at the chin to protect the skin.
  • Underarm Zip Vents (Pit Zips): Open to release heat and excess moisture when activity levels increase. With welded external storm flaps to maintain waterproofness.
  • Two Zippered Hand Pockets: Welt pockets with external storm flaps. The jacket stows into the left pocket with a carabiner clip loop.
  • Velcro-Closure Cuffs and Adjustable Drawcord Hem: Seal out rain and wind at the wrists and waist.
  • Regular Fit: Enough room for layering underneath without feeling tight.
  • Fair Trade Certified™: Made in a factory where workers receive an additional premium for their labor.

Why choose this rain jacket?

  • Real, Field-Tested Waterproofness: The Torrentshell is not just a "water-resistant" jacket. It's a three-layer rain jacket with a waterproof membrane and sealed seams that keeps you dry in sustained rain. It's the difference between getting wet and staying dry when the weather gets serious.
  • Patagonia's Standard for Decades: The Torrentshell has been Patagonia's best-selling waterproof jacket for years, and for good reason: it offers premium rain jacket performance at a price that doesn't double the competition. Hard-to-beat value for money.
  • Breathes Better Than a 2.5-Layer: The 3-layer construction with a tricot backer manages internal moisture better than 2 or 2.5-layer constructions. Pit zips add active ventilation when you need it.
  • Packs into Its Own Pocket: At 400g, it's not the lightest jacket on the market, but it compresses into its left pocket and fits in any backpack. You can always carry it with you in case the weather changes.
  • Truly PFAS-Free: Not only is the DWR finish PFAS-free — so are the membrane and the fabric. It's one of the few waterproof jackets on the market that has eliminated perfluorinated substances from all its components.
  • Seven Colors This Season: Aquatic Blue, Black, Caper Green, Gem Green, Limestone Yellow, Noble Grey, and Smolder Blue.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What material is it made of?
3-layer construction: outer of 50-denier (3.5 oz) 100% recycled ECONYL® ripstop nylon, PU polycarbonate membrane with 13% bio-based content, and tricot backer. PFAS-free DWR finish. No component contains perfluorinated substances.
  • How much does it weigh?
    400g.
  • Is it really waterproof?
Yes. It meets Patagonia's H2No® Performance Standard, which certifies waterproofness, breathability, and long-term durability. Seams are sealed and it has a double storm flap on the zipper.
  • Is it breathable?
Yes. The PU polycarbonate membrane allows vapor to escape, and pit zips add active ventilation. That said, during very intense activity in the rain, some internal moisture may accumulate — as with any waterproof rain jacket.
  • Can it be packed into its own pocket?
Yes. It compresses into the left pocket, which includes a loop for attaching a carabiner.
  • What is ECONYL®?
ECONYL® is recycled nylon made from waste materials such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, and industrial plastics. It has the same performance as virgin nylon but with a significantly lower environmental impact.
  • Can it be worn with layers underneath?
Yes. The regular fit provides room for a base layer and a mid-layer (light fleece or similar) without feeling tight.
  • Where is it made?
In Vietnam, in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory.
  • How to wash it?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Tumble dry on low heat (this helps reactivate the DWR). Can be ironed on low heat. Do not steam.
